Coyotes sniff the desert air and
young javelinas take their first bites of prickly pear cactus at the
Arizona-Sonara Desert Museum near Tucson. Walk the grounds of
this natural history museum and zoo, and you'll have the opportunity to
see both birds and wildlife in native habitat.
Specializing in the flora and fauna of the
Sonoran Desert, the museum has more than 40,000 plants, represnting
1300
species, in its botanical gardens. The museum also has two
aviaries, one just for hummingbirds.
Threatened and endangered species on exhibit include the Mexican wolf,
ocelot, margay, jaguarundi, and thick-billed parrot.
