On summer evenings, children sit in the
back of their parents' trucks and point out javelinas and deer foraging
on the edges of the park roads. While far from a wilderness
experience, Choke Canyon State Park is an excellent choice for family
outings.
For birdwatchers, the park has a designated birdwatching trail.
Harris Hawks, Crested Caracaras and Red-tailed Hawks may fly above, and
flycatchers are numerous: Ash-throated, Least,
Scissor-tailed and Vermilion Flycatchers, Great
Kiskadees, Western Kingbirds and Eastern and Say's Phoebes are all
found here.
Campsites and shelters with fans are available, and the park also has a
swimming pool (alligators inhabit the lake.)
