This time the fish won. Yesterday demolition crews completed removal of the Glines Canyon Dam, and the Elwha River now runs unobstructed from its source in the Olympic Mountains to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Researchers at the University of Kansas in Lawrence studied DNA collected from Phillippine tarsiers and discovered a new subspecies of the small, big-eyed primate on Dinagat and Mindanao Islands. Unfortunately, their habitat isn't protected, and mining activities are expanding. Read more in this article in Science News.

Could bison once again roam the Great Plains? Wildlife managers at Yellowstone National Park are working on plan to reintroduce disease-free bison to their native habitat. But the Montana Stockgrowers Association remains opposed, arguing that even brucellosis-free bison could damage the livestock industry.
