SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Serengeti National Park is the base for one of the world's most spectacular wildlfe migrations.  In late winter, after rains have spurred the growth of fresh grass,
over a million wildebeest journey from Kenya to the Serengeti plains in Tanzania.  Newborn wildebeest learn the ways of the world here and are able to run after their mothers within hours of their birth.

Following this mass migration of plains herbivores are  lions, leopards and cheetahs.  They seek out straggling and orphaned wildebeest, gazelles, impalas and zebras.  Smaller predators - wild dogs, hyenas, jackals, bat-eared foxes and honey badgers - are also present, all waiting for their chance at a meal.

Serengeti National Park also has a diverse avian population.  The park's bird list tops 350 species, with the greater ecosystem hosting up to 500 species of birds.
