The largest wildlife preserve in South Africa, Kruger National Park boasts an amazing 1,982 species of plants, 517 species of birds (253 resident) and 147 species of mammals. When traveling through Kruger, visitors may see leopards,
lions, cheetahs, hyenas and African wild dogs. Herbivores include giraffes, impalas, blue wildebeests, buffalo, hippos, sable and roan antelope, savannah elephants and white and black rhinocerous.  The park also includes habitat for 120 species of reptile, including the Nile crocodile.

The Limpopo River is the boundary line for the park's northern border. Kruger's main entrance gate is east of Hazyview, but seven other gates also provide access to the park.  Kruger offers rest camps for the weary, and the larger camps provide restaurants or self-serve cafeterias, communal kitchens, first-aid centers, laundry facilities, grocery stores, gas stations and public telephones.  Upscale lodging is also available, both within the park's boundaries and at private game reserves.
