An estimated 706
mountain
gorillas remain in the wild, and about 300 of these gorillas survive
within the boundaries of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
- a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the western Rift Valley of
southwestern Uganda. To protect the gorilla population, the park
strictly controls the number of visitors, issuing only ten
permits per day for its guided gorilla treks.
Within Bwindi's boundaries are over 200 species of trees, 104 species
of ferns,
214 species of forest birds and 120 species of mammals.
Bwindi's accomodations range from basic campsites and budget rooms near
the
Buhoma entrance to luxury tent camps and a lodge.
